Britten-Norman Flight Academy is the training division of Britten-Norman, the UK's only privately owned aircraft manufacturer, based at Daedalus Airfield in Lee-on-the-Solent. As a UK CAA-approved Declared Training Organisation (DTO), it provides Private Pilot Licence (PPL), Single Engine Piston (SEP) class rating, and aerobatic training, alongside specialist OEM-approved pilot training for operators of the Britten-Norman Islander and Defender aircraft. The academy also delivers type conversion, STOL, upset recovery, and mission-specific training, combining practical flight instruction with the manufacturer's in-depth operational expertise.
In addition to pilot training, the academy offers comprehensive technical education for engineers, maintenance technicians, and mission operators, with courses covering airframe, avionics, engines, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, and bespoke aviation programmes. Training can be delivered at its dedicated facilities in Lee-on-the-Solent, at customer locations worldwide, or through online learning platforms, supporting both civilian and government operators. As the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the Islander and Defender aircraft, Britten-Norman Flight Academy combines manufacturer-approved instruction with real-world operational experience, making it a specialist provider of training for operators of these aircraft around the world.
