Shadow Aviation Ltd is a specialist microlight flight training school. Established in 1993, the school focuses primarily on fixed-wing microlight instruction using the popular Ikarus C42 aircraft. The school moved its operations to Compton Abbas in 2019 and provides an picturesque flying environment within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering pilot training tailored to light sport and recreational aviation enthusiasts.
Led by experienced Chief Flying Instructor Fiona Luckhurst, Shadow Aviation delivers a wide array of training programs ranging from initial National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL) Microlight ratings to advanced flying skills and refresher courses. The facility serves as a key centre for CAA Microlight Flying Instructor (FI) training and examining, offering structured preparation and skill tests for aspiring instructors. Additionally, Shadow Aviation acts as a training provider for the Flying Scholarships for Disabled People charity, utilising modified aircraft controls to make flight instruction accessible to disabled pilots, while also providing Light Aircraft Association (LAA) and British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) aircraft permit inspection services.
